A Note To Parents

We understand that seeing a son or daughter off on a gap year or independent travel experience can be a distressing and worrying time for those left behind. Where you once had some control and therefore some ability to protect your family, that rug is pulled out from beneath you.

The countries now open to travel are much more varied and much more accessible then they were twenty years ago and areas that only a few years ago were war zones, are now travel destinations.

A whole generation is now much more used to foreign travel then older generations ever were. It is one area where the experience of the parent may not be sufficient, to advise their children who plan to explore all the wonders the world has to offer. The frustration of not having the experience to teach your own children, adds to the anxiety.

Young people’s rashness and over confidence can land them in hot water, it doesn’t mean that they get in any real trouble, but just that the life experiences they have may be limited, putting them at more risk.

Our Gap Year and Independent Travel Safety & Awareness workshop (GYITSA) helps anyone planning to travel anywhere in the world, many of those attending the workshop are young adults.

Beyond The Blue has a history of training young people, our managing director spent many years working alongside and training students during his time working at the University of London. During this time he interacted daily with these young adults and trained and employed thousands of students to perform in many roles including some which carried a great deal of responsibility.

When we listen to the news, we hear stories of terror, violence and crime all over the world, not a day seems to go by without a new story appearing. Parents have the right to fear for the safety of their children when they are so far away from home and vulnerable.

Beyond The Blue sets two main objectives for our workshop:

  • To provide enough relevant information to travellers to enable them to travel safely, having prepared well.
  • To reduce the concerns of family and friends they are leaving behind, in the knowledge they have prepared and reduced the risks associated with their travel.

Our workshop covers the needs of those travelling but also those left behind. As part of the workshop we consider the best ways to communicate not only with people in different countries, but how to communicate with the friends and family left behind.

The workshop is designed specifically for those attending; we tailor courses based on the destinations and the experiences of those attending. We ask all candidates to fill out a Candidate Pre-Booking Form before they attend our workshop. This form asks you for your previous experiences and information about your planned trip. This allows us to prepare for the workshop in advance and make it more relevant to those attending.

We know our course can’t prevent accidents or eliminate the risks completely, but we teach candidates to manage and reduce the risks, which enhances the enjoyment and overall travel experience.

Let our experts help your children and stop them worrying about you worrying and stop you worrying about them being worried….. Let our experts help you reduce your concerns and those or your children planning to travel.

You will note that there is a minimum attendance number for us to run our courses. If you choose to organise a course near you with other parents and your children’s friends, we can offer Incentives & Discounts to you directly or split these over the group as a whole.

We can also organise private courses for smaller groups, please call us on 0845 602 55 95 or Contact Us for further details.

We believe in a transparent open approach and in and in providing access to useful information through our Gap Year and Independent Travel Safety & Awareness workshop (GYITSA).

A short introduction to each of the subjects we cover during our workshop is published to allow anyone planning to travel to gain an insight into the considerations they will need to make, these include:
