Managing Director - Peter Mayhew
Beyond The Blue was established by Peter Mayhew to allow him to focus his attention on his areas of expertise as well as to bring together an impressive set of trainers and experts in their field. His aim is to provide services to businesses, organisations and individuals with the intention of transferring skills and knowledge from one industry to others for mutual benefit.
With 15 years experience in the licensed retail sector & entertainment industry, Peter has always insisted in playing an active role when it came to managing and organising employees, systems and events. In his very diverse roles he had the responsibility to manage businesses which grew out of all expectations under his guidance.
Having a particular interest in the security industry, Peter made a point of developing his skills in this sector working with and managing security teams for over 12 years, he has been instrumental in changing the methods used, from crude and aggressive to positive, professional and focused on customer service. This has been achieved through the use of intelligence and common sense and he took training to another level and by realising the benefits of Conflict Management and Resolution Training before it was made mandatory by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Developing systems and In-House Security Induction Training programmes is his speciality and he has developed many systems for companies to use in-house and at major events in order to manage risk and balance it effectively with business.
He has also had the opportunity exercise his passion to travel extensively round the world, with a natural curiosity and sense of adventure he has travelled to over 50 countries in every corner of the world and visited many of these countries on more then one occasion. These countries include many on the tourist / backpacker trail, a number on the intrepid travellers trail and some that many even in the travel industry know very little about. They include: Most of Europe, USA, Caribbean, Australia, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Madagascar, Cambodia, Borneo, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, China, Mongolia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, and many many more.
Having travelled to such remote place as Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands (so remote the USA chose this as the site for their nuclear testing programme), he is uniquely placed with the combination of experiences and skills to deliver the Gap Year & Independent Travel Safety and Awareness workshop (GYITSA).
Often Travelling on his own in both remote and urban environments Peter has seen it all, he has the first hand knowledge on how to; deal with hawkers; avoid conflict; be aware of cultural sensitivities; meet other people; where its safe to travel and the places best left alone for a few years as too dangerous. But his overwhelming talent is how to manage all these aspects without letting it ruin you trip in any way.
Having early on in his career made the realisation of the potential of young adults while working within the University sector, Peter has throughout his career employed and worked with young energetic individuals and trained thousands of young adults to be able to perform in positions with responsibility far beyond their years. He realises that the needs for a 55 year old and a 35 year old are very different from each other and how the needs of an 18-25 year old vary further yet. He has the ability to communicate with all these groups on their own level and knows how to get the best out of individuals.
More then anything you’ll have to work hard simply to stop him, once he starts talking about travel.
